S.T.R.A.W Host 5th Annual Girls Leadership Conference.
Held every year in March, this event is attended by junior and senior high school females (as well as college-aged young women) throughout New Providence and the Family Islands. This year the conference was held on Friday 13 March 2009 at Superclubs Breezes Resort. The conference began at 9:00am and ended at 5:00pm.
"Heralded as the premier conference for teen girls and young women, it is the brainchild of S.T.R.A.W. Inc. Center for Young Women (Terry Cunningham's youth development organization).
Here at S.T.R.A.W. Inc. Center for Young Women, we mentor teen girls and young women and offer a safe space which encourages high self esteem and stimulates positive youth development. Founded in 2002, S.T.R.A.W. is an acronym which stands for strengthening, transforming, restoring, affirming young women. And throughout the years, and five years later, we have been doing just that! My organization is a non-profit youth development program (registered with the Ministry of Youth since 2002 and the Ministry of Social Services since 2007). We invite emerging female student leaders to join us in a one day conclave designed for networking, training and socializing among their peers. The one day event is usually filled with tons of information, tools and techniques available to the young women to assist them in their quest for personal success.
